Three hundred and ten teams, involving 1,667 students, from 48 schools, participated in the Take Stock in Kentucky for Fall, 2004.. Over a period of 10 weeks, teams of students researched Kentucky companies or businesses important to the Kentucky economy, made investment decisions, and built their portfolios, investing $100,000 in imaginary money. At the end of the competition, teams are ranked on equity in portfolio. Teachers were provided with websites, educational resources and lessons to teach students about investing, Kentucky companies and economy, and the stock market. In addition, 313 teams of 1,374 students, from 42 schools participated this fall in the Stock Market Game investment education program, where students invest in mutual funds and stocks on the NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ.
The first place prize is $300, second place is $200, and 3rd place is $100 to be used by the school, class, or team, plus $50 for a class pizza party. The first place team will receive class trophies, and SMG medals at the Kentucky Council on Economic Education Annual Awards program in June, 2005.
